Recover Lost or Deleted Files Due to Performing CHKDSK SCANDISK

Windows has two inbuilt disk utility command options named CHKDSK & SCANDISK. Any one can be used to fix hard drive bad sectors, blocks, registry errors and many other which is responsible for uncertain shutdown or system restart in loop. First & foremost, you need to know why these two options are so popular among Windows users and when they are used.

CHKDSK

Microsoft introduced this disk utility command since before 2000 and can be found in all the latest versions of Windows OS. CHKDSK command can be used to check the file system integrity status, directories, bad sectors, blocks, & registry errors as well as fix them. It is mostly helpful in the case when system becomes unbootable or giving you a series of popup error messages.

You can use it directly by going to command prompt (Press CTRL + Run & Type CMD) or by going to explorer, right click on any specific drive,go to properties option and then select Tools tab, where a button is located named ‘Check Now’ (see in the image below).

Drive Properties

Linux & MAC operating system uses the same fsck command (stands for file system check) to check hard drive errors and fix it.

SCANDISK

SCANDISK is an improved GUI based method unlike CHKDSK utility to manually check physical errors on the hard drive as well as file system structureand repairs them automatically. However, if you running system using NTFS file system method, you cannot use this feature as it is restricted by Microsoft to only for older versions of Windows like 2000, NT etc.

You can run SCANDISK graphically by going to Start – Programs – Accessories – System Tools and click on SCANDISK (See in the Image below)

Why Some of My Files was Lost after Performing CHKDSK Operation?

Failed startup, virus corruption and file system damages are the reasons after which the system needs to run check disk utility. Either it will automatically initiate just after starting the system (though you have 10 seconds on click cancel on it) or you can run it yourself by using command prompt or by going to drive properties > tools tab> Check Errors.

In both cases, check disk utility usually checks your file system for errors and can mistakenly mark either system files or any of your precious file that looks dangerous for CHKDSK utility and then tries to repair them. In such cases, CHKDSK utility removes the file addresses, delete the space it covers and mark them as ready to store any new files. So if you believe that some of your files were missing or deleted due to running check disk utility, you need to stop using the drive and take help of any professional recovery software.

Data recovery software is an efficiently designed program to scan and recover the lost, hidden or infected data from the hard drive and other removable media. All you need is to download the professional recovery software from a reputed company having expertise, experience and equipment’s in recovering data from such conditions.

Ultimate List of BSOD 'STOP' Errors That Sucks

Any BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error is a common problem exists in the old Windows as well as in the latest i.e., Windows 8. BSOD errors, formally known as 'Stop' error can be of huge varieties and occurs due to various hardware or software issues. Finding the reasons behind any BSOD and troubleshooting one may requires deep knowledge as well as huge efforts.

Every BSOD comes with a unique hexadecimal code which can helps you to decipher the exact causes. In sake of simplicity, I've combined a list of BSOD errors to let you understand the causes.

Stop Error 0x0000000A or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This error caused due to memory dispatch level violation. In simple terms, Your Windows OS or Kernal-mode driver has tried to access paged memory on or above the maximum threshold level. Any newly installed hardware or software may be responsible for this.

Stop Error 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
As the name suggest, this error comes when any program or driver have reference to an invalid memory location. This error also indicates that the required set of data isn't present in the memory. Software application (such as antivirus, anti malware) or corrupted memory (RAM, main memory) may be responsible for this STOP error.

Stop Error 0x0000006B or PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED (For Parameter 1, Parameter 2, Parameter 3 or Parameter 4)
After getting this error, Your PC won't start anymore as your Windows is missing an important system files such as bootcat.cache and/or bootcat.cache file is modified after the last successful start. This error can be seen often on Windows 7 SP 1 or higher.

Stop Error 0x0000007B or INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
After the system partition or boot volume corruption, Your Windows might won't able to access the desired system volume during startup and so it eventually fails. Incompatible drivers or virus infections typically causes this error.

Stop Error 0x0000007E or SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
It simply means system thread has generated an exception that the error handler couldn't catch. This could happen due incompatible BIOS or video adapter. Corrupted or damaged device driver may also contribute towards this stop error.

Stop Error 0x000000C2 or BAD_POOL_CALLER
Your Windows requires many settings and options to smoothly running the system and performing functions normally. 'Data_Pool' is a combination of such information and plays significant role in providing information to Windows what it needs to run. Though, it can be corrupted by faulty hardware or applications and may results in this 'STOP' error

Stop Error 0x00000024 or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
Weather the system partition is in NTFS or FAT (0x23 for FAT) File formats, this error co-exists for both and can make your system inaccessible. This error throws after hardware failure in disk or disk controller and using CHKDSK utility might be the simplest solution.

So, above are the major BSOD error occurs with normal computer users and require their tough time to sort out. If you hadn't got the BSOD error code what you are looking for, I've cover up some other types of BSOD errors in my next post.
