Hard Disk Recovery Is Possible Even After Formatting The System

Image of a Western Digital 250Gb SATA Hard Dri...Image via WikipediaNo matter which operating system you use, all the storage devices (including internal and external hard disk drives, zip drives, CDs, DVDs, pen drives, and many more) are prone to errors and data loss. This could happen due to any reason, like, unintentional or intentional drive formatting, unexpected power off leading to sudden closure of the operating system, accidental deletion of important system files, partition or its file system corruption, operating system error, some bugs, corruption or damage to the storage media, read/write error messages, and many more. But handling all these problems is fairly easy, if you have a backup of the data. But in case you don't have it, hard disk recovery software can aid you in your endeavor for it.

Consider, you formatted the system. Now, this might be a need of the hour, or an accidental incident, or sabotage of your system. Though formatting is a process that is used to prepare a hard disk drive for saving data by installing a file system. This process readies the hard drive for storing fresh data by deleting the earlier saved data. It was believed by people earlier that this phenomenon led to deletion of the data, but now it is possible to recover almost all of it. So, whether you formatted the system to get rid of the viruses, or to remove the nasty error message, or you were preparing to get rid of your hard drive, keep in mind that every single file that wa previously saved in your system may be recovered.

With the help of a good hard drive recovery software, you may be able to access your data. Just make sure that the software you rely upon is not a virus or malware. Some free software may not be reliable. Rely on a software that is backed by a trusted company with experience in disk recovery. A number of software even have simple graphical user interface, with read-only and non-destructive conduct.

Also make sure that you do not install the software on the affected drive, as for all you know, the recovery software might just overwrite the data that had to be recovered. In such a case, you will not be able to extract all the data.

Stellar data recovery , is a pioneer in data recovery and has a plethora of dedicated software that are compatible with different operating systems (like, Windows, Mac, Linux), and are designed to perform specific recovery tasks.

Hard Disk Data Recovery After c_1252.nls File Gets Corrupt or Missing

Image of an ASUS CD-Rom DriveImage via Wikipedia
Every computer user depends on some or the other operating system to communicate with their hard disks. But what happens if due to some reason the operating system doesn't function properly. For example, if the operating system gets infected by viruses, encounters file system corruption, the system files become corrupt or missing, then the system stops functioning properly. At times, it stops functioning altogether.

In such cases, our communication with the disk gets hampered leading to inaccessibility of all the data saved therein. In such dire circumstances, we have to opt for appropriate disk recovery measures to get hold of our data.

Consider, one fine day, when you start your NTFS formatted Windows XP system, you get following error message:

The file C:\windows\system32\c_1252.nls is missing or corrupt

Reason: As stated in the message, the mentioned file is corrupt or unavailable.

Troubleshooting: following methods should help solve the problem:

1st Method: Run chkdsk on the hard disk to check for errors:

1. Insert the CD in the drive and restart computer.
2. When prompted, select appropriate option to start XP from the CD.
3. When Setup starts, follow the directions, and press R to repair or recover.
4. Enter the Administrator password, when prompted.
5. On the command prompt, type (followed by Enter):
chkdsk /r
6. After this, type exit to quit the Console.
7. Restart computer.

2nd Method: Replace Missing Files using following steps:

1.Enter the command prompt, using steps 1 to steps 4, as done in 1st method.

2.In the command prompt, type below mentioned commands (each followed by Enter):

cd system32
ren c_1252.nls c_1252.old
expand drive:\i386\c_1252.nl_ c:\windows\system32

where drive, refers to CD drive.

3.After this, type exit to quit the Console.

4.Restart computer.

3rd Method: If the above methods do not work, you will need to perform an in-place upgrade for Windows XP.

4th Method: Though the above three methods work in most of the case, but if they don't, you will need to reinstall MS Windows XP. However, be wary of the fact that reinstalling Windows leads to loss of all the data, and calls for hard disk recovery using an updated backup. However if you do not have a backup, then you will have to perform disk recovery using the most suited third-party software for this task.

Partition Recovery Software is one of the most suited software for performing the stated recovery task. With compatibility for most of the versions of Windows operating systems, including, Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP and 2000, and support for NTFS, NTFS5, FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, and exFAT file formats, this hard disk recovery tool has an intuitive interface, and is simple to use.
