How to Recover Lost or Deleted Partitions?

Hard drive is a widely-used and reliable storage media, which can be divided into several partitions. Microsoft Windows enables you to create maximum of four primary partitions that have a unique entry in the partition table. This entry is used by the operating system to identify, locate, and access these partition. Every Windows hard drive partition works as an individual hard drive, which is separate from all other partitions. In some cases, system crash and hard drive failure like situations may cause partition corruption and lead to partition loss. At this point, partition recovery software becomes need of hour, if you do not have a clean and current backup in place.

When partition loss occurs, all your precious data stored on the particular Windows partition become inaccessible and leads to severe data loss. You may run across the partition loss issues due to any of the following reasons:

Hard Drive Formatting- Hard drive formatting is the process of removing all the content stored on hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. It is required to get rid of errors and some deadly viruses, which can not be removed using a third-party anti-virus application.

Accidental Deletion- It is a common user mistake, which can be made by any computer user. You may unintentionally delete a Windows hard drive partition while managing the hard drive using Disk Management snap-in.

Fixing the problem when the Hal.dll file is damaged in Windows XP system

In the Windows NT and later systems, the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) file acts as the layer between the various software drivers that communicate with the hardware components. In addition, this file is needed when the system is to be booted. However, when this file gets corrupt the system does not boot. In such cases, you should try to rebuild its partition using restorative methods. If any of the methods is unable to fix the problem, then the best way to address the situation is by using a third-party partition recovery software to recover partition and start the system.

Let's take an instance where you are unable to start your Windows XP Service Pack 2 system. An error message is displayed in this situation, which is similar to the following message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
Windows root\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.”

Cause:

This erroneous situation can happen because of the following circumstances:
  • The Hal.dll file or the Ntoskrnl.exe files are not matched.
  • Some corruption of file system and/or disk has occurred in the primary boot record. Because of this, either or both of the Hal.dll and the Ntoskrnl.exe file have become corrupt.
  • The partition or the boot record has corrupted.
